Pin Chieh Wu

National Cheng Kung University
Taiwan

Dr. Pin Chieh Wu received his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from National Taiwan University in 2015 under the supervision of Professor Din Ping Tsai. He subsequently held postdoctoral research positions at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, working with Professor Ai-Qun Liu on microfluidic metasurfaces, integrated waveguide photonics, and quantum photonics. He later joined the group of Professor Harry Atwater at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA, where his research focused on active metasurfaces and optoelectronic integration.

Dr. Wu's research interests include active and passive metasurfaces, flat optics, plasmonics, and quantum nanophotonics. He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles, which have garnered more than 11,900 citations with an h-index of 47 (Google Scholar). His work has been published in top-tier journals including Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, and Physical Review Letters. He also holds more than 10 international and domestic patents related to metasurface and nanophotonic technologies.

As an active member of the optics and photonics community, Dr. Wu has delivered over 25 invited talks at major international conferences and served as a session or symposium organizer for events such as PIERS, MRS Meetings, META, and the Annual Meeting of the Physical Society of Taiwan.

His achievements have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Yushan Young Scholar Fellowship (2019–2029), the Outstanding Young Physicist Award from the Physical Society of Taiwan (2022), and inclusion in the World’s Top 2% Scientists list for four consecutive years (2020–2023). He is also a Senior Member of SPIE and a Senior Member of Optica.

For JLT, he is handling submissions on the following topics:

  • Metasurfaces and Flat Optics
  • Nanophotonics and Plasmonics
  • Integrated Photonic Devices
  • Optical Sensors and Imaging
  • Integrated Waveguides and Systems
