Gangxiang Shen (S’98–M’99–SM’12) received the B.Eng. degree from Zhejiang University, China, the M.Sc. degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Alberta, Canada, in 2006. He is Dean and Distinguished Professor with the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Soochow University in China. Before he joined Soochow University, he was a Lead Engineer with Ciena, Linthicum, Maryland. He was also an Australian ARC Postdoctoral Fellow with the University of Melbourne. His research interests include spectrum efficient optical networks, green optical networks, and integrated optical and wireless networks. He has authored and co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed technical papers. He was a Lead Guest Editor of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications Special Issue on ‘‘Next-Generation Spectrum-Efficient and Elastic Optical Transport Networks,’’ and a Guest Editor of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications Special Issue on ‘‘Energy-Efficiency in Optical Networks.’’ He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE/OSA Journal of Optical Communication and Networking, and is currently serving as an Associate Editor of IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology, IEEE Networking Letters, and China Communications, and an Editorial Board Member of Optical Switching and Networking and Photonic Network Communications. He was a Secretary for the IEEE Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) Integration Sub-Technical Committee. He received the Young Researcher New Star Scientist Award in the ‘‘2010 Scopus Young Researcher Award Scheme’’ in China. He was a recipient of the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Award from the University of Alberta and the Canadian NSERC Industrial Research and Development Fellowship. He was selected as “Highly Cited Chinese Researcher’’ by Elsevier in 2014-2020. He was an elected IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer (2018-2019). He is a member at large of IEEE ComSoc Strategic Planning Standing Committee (2018-). He has served as TPC member of both OFC and ECOC. He is an elected Fellow of Optica (OSA).
